What is Low Vision?

Low vision refers to a condition where an individual’s sight cannot be fully corrected with standard glasses or contact lenses, limiting their ability to perform everyday tasks. This often results from eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, among others. Low vision is also a common effect of ageing; as we grow older, our vision naturally declines. After age 60, these changes typically become more pronounced, and even the most advanced corrective eyewear may no longer provide sufficient support.

What to Expect in your Consultation

It will begin with a review of your current prescription, spectacles and any low vision aids you may already be using. We will then discuss your eye condition and how it affects you with a focus on the activities you would like to be doing.

We will then discuss the best strategies and visual aids to help you get back to doing what you want to do. It is important to note that the goal is not to cure the impairing condition, but to find the best ways to overcome the impairment.
